Why Do People Blog? Truth Exposed

how do you start a blog and make money feature image with man at table with laptop drinking coffee

Have you ever wondered why do people start a blog? I did for years until I found one of the main reasons people write blogs is to make online revenue.

People can write blogs for a number of reasons that include making a difference, sharing their knowledge, building an online network of followers, market their business, and become an authority in their field. In the end, most people write blogs to make money whether directly or indirectly.

That's right, they want to make some money!

There is nothing wrong with making money online. Daily life is full of exchanges and including the exchange of knowledge through the internet is no different.

Would you like to learn how to make some money online?

That is one of the reasons that I am writing this blog.

I too want to make some online money.

I'm going to teach you what a blog for the purpose of making money looks like, why you should start a blog, and show you how to start a blog to make money.

What Does a Money Making Blog Look Like?

Well, I do hope that this blog post will be a good example of a blog that makes money.

Now you don't need to grasp onto your wallet. I'm not going to reach in and grab your money.

My plan is to provide you with FREE, helpful information so that I can make loads of money.

No, you don't need to drag me off to the insane ward. You read that right. I provide Free helpful information so that I can earn an online income.

By reading this blog post this far you've probably already made me some money.

Thanks!

No worries, if I did make money at this point it didn't come out of your wallet.

There are people and companies that will pay me more money the longer I Keep You on This Post. The More People That visit the more i get paid!

Now, wait, that doesn't mean I can now quit, climb aboard my yacht, and say hasta la vista!

The money I make from people viewing my pages would only be if I have some paid advertisers within your view which we call impressions.

Ad impressions don't pay all that much per view, maybe a fraction of a cent per visitor.

So I ain't going to count my pennies just yet.

I never said I made a lot of money from you reading this blog until here but I do hope to make more as we go along.

I think I can see a few bucks sticking out from your wallet right about now.

No worries, the ability to suck money out your wallet through an internet connection is not possible...yet!

The other way that this blog can make me money is if I suggest that you click on either an affiliate link or a product that I am promoting or selling.

==> Click Here To Learn About Signing Up To Affiliate Programs.

An affiliate link is a special link to another website or landing page that detects that I have sent you there and should you purchase something from them, they will pay me a commission.

There are  companies that will pay me a commission for people i refer to their site and end up purchasing a product or service

Affiliate marketing does take work and that method also needs to have a lot of traffic to my site to make it worthwhile.

First, there is the task of getting you to read my blog, then have you click one of my affiliate links, then you need to buy something from that company/merchant in order for me to earn a commission based on a percentage of the cost of that product or service.

So the odds of me making a commission is something in the order of 4% to 75%, of 12%, of 20%. Meaning only about 20% of viewers will click one of my affiliate links, then only about 12% will purchase something from the merchant, and depending on the merchant I can earn a commission of 4% to 75% of the purchase price.

Example: Let's say my site gets 100 visitors per day, so ~20 (20%) of those visitors may click my affiliate link, then only 2.4 (12%) of those people that clicked a link will buy that product. If that product is worth $100 and 2.4 people buy it, with an average commission of ~20%. I would make about  $48/day.

Not too shabby, much better than a fraction of a cent.

Instead of using affiliate links I could also suggest that you buy one of my own products or courses.

Actually, I have a free, 10-minute course on how to start affiliate marketing.

Really though it is absolutely Free ==>Click Here For Your Free Affiliate Marketing Course

"It is every man's obligation to put back into the world at least the equivalent of what he takes out of it."  Albert Einstein

Instead of giving courses away like I just did, I could have charged you $5 or $19.99 for that course.

Then that product sale would be 100% profit.

All these options to make money within a blog post should give you an idea of what to expect from blogs that are trying to reach that goal.

You should be aware that not all blog posts are trying to make money directly from links or ads.

Some blogs are truly meant to provide good content but they ensure you know who is providing it.

They are usually companies that have products of their own and they are trying to create a brand and your trust.

So they will provide good, authoritative content, in the hopes that eventually you will associate their brand to one that is only there to help and then end up buying something from them.

Do you think it's time that you start a blog?

Why Should You Start a Blog?

What would be your reasons for starting a blog?

As mentioned at the beginning of this post there are various reasons someone may want to start a blog.

Unfortunately, many start to blog only for the reason of making money.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to make money with your blog but most people that do it solely for that reason will generally fail as a blogger.

One of the main reasons people will fail at making money at blogging when their focus is on making money is that their passion for the topic isn't there.

Tip:

Choosing a topic that your passionate about will make it much easier to write about and it will never feel like a job!

When that passion isn't there then the readers/visitors to the website will notice.

Another reason people fail when they are only in it for the money is that it can take months if not years to make enough money from blogging to make the income worthwhile.

So they lose patience before their blogs ever make any impact.

Hmm...doesn't look like I'm really selling you the idea to start blogging here with all this negativity, am I?

It's really important that before you decide and take action with starting a blog that you really understand what you are getting yourself into.

It takes lots of work, many hours of researching, writing, building a website, and networking before you start to see any glimpse of money coming in.

Blogging, affiliate marketing, selling eBooks or courses are not getting rich quick opportunities.

They are legitimate online businesses that take hard work and persistence to get it off the ground.

Ok, I'm getting to the positive part where I think it is an awesome idea to start a blog.

Once you've created the foundation, the hardest part, you can keep growing your online business up, and up, as much as you want.

The more quality content (blogs) you add to your site the more visitors you can expect to come to visit your site.

If you have one blog that attracts 20 people per day, great. If you have 2 blogs you can get 40, create another blog you can have a 100 visitors, and so on.

The more blogs you have that has value for readers the more visitors you can expect, exponentially more!

I think you now get the idea of how a blog can make you money.

You basically write quality content that help people, because that is why most people do searches on the internet, they want their question answered.

I actually answered the question within the first paragraph of this post but I also tempted you to continue reading even though your original question was answered right at the top.

That is another key factor in becoming a blogger, it's not only the content that has to be good but you also need to keep the attention of your reader.

So does blogging sound like something you may want to try?

Awesome! Let me show you how easy it is to get started.

How Do You Start a Blog and Make Money?

Let's break that heading down into 2 parts.

We'll start with how to start a blog.

This part is quite easy.

Honestly, it can take virtually less than a minute to create your own blog website.

First, think about something that you are passionate about.

Remember, you don't want to do this just for the money.

You want to start with the intention to share your passion with the world.

That way your blog content will be authentic and quality information.

Your readers will appreciate you for it and will keep coming back.

So choose a passion, then think of what you would want to call your website.

You can use the free search widget below to start your blog website for free.

(No Banners or Ads)

Once you've found a name (domain) for your website then you can get started in creating your website.

If you've never created a blog website before then you will want some training.

Now my free 10-minute course does give some general information on how to do this but I know of and I use a platform that has everything you need to build your online business.

You can sign up for free, no CREDIT CARD REQUIRED so keep that wallet in your pocket.

Once you've created your blog website you will be ready to add content to your site.

Time to talk about step two on making money.

Then when you have a good 30 or so blogs on your site you can start off thinking about how you can monetize your site.

In case you didn't already know "Monetize" means having your website make you money!

The easiest way to make money from a blog site is to have affiliate links.

I wrote a whole blog on how to get affiliate links here.

In brief, you need to apply to individual merchants or you can sign up to an affiliate network like ShareASale.

When you are approved then you can start adding links to your blog posts or anywhere on your website.

You'll want to increase traffic to your site so you will want to keep adding good quality content, share your information on social media, create youtube videos to promote your site or whatever another way you can think of to get your name out there.

You can also create eBooks to sell, develop a membership site where people pay a monthly membership, you name it.

There are hundreds of ways to earn an income from your blog site.

The best thing I can suggest once again is to use the same platform that I use to run my online business.

I started as a Free member, kept my wallet in my pocket and started my online business in minutes after reading a blog similar to this one.

It didn't take me long to realize the potential of success that I ended signing up to a paid membership to this platform so I can skyrocket my online progress like crazy.

You can click here or go to the bottom of this post to click on the banner for my #1 recommended platform.

Conclusion

I hope that answers your question of why do people create blogs.

People write blogs for many reasons but most will add a way that they can make money from them.

If you decide you will pursue this opportunity please be sure you start for the reason of providing awesome information that helps people about something you care about.

That way the work required to make your blog website successful will never feel like a job.

You will see people leave comments and appreciate the help you've provided is much more rewarding than any money you can make.

What will you write about?

Leave your answer below. Have a comment or question please leave it below. I love to hear from you and I always reply.

Cheers

I am one of those people that started blogging last year in the hopes of making money online and finally leave my full time job. For me I blog about health, diet and lifestyle. It has been so random lately but I am that person when I see something that I really like, I will do a lot of research and can just talk about it non stop on my blog. Hopefully around June this year I will have more traffic to my website 🙂 Great post!

    Thanks,

The fact that you are sticking to it means a lot. It may look easy for some but don’t give up. Most of those that succeed had to put a lot of work to get to that point.

As a great mentor at WA always says, “I believe in you”

I have been asked this question a thousand times I bet. Why do people start a blog is a question I love to answer because I can see a light go off in people’s heads when they listen to what I have to say. As an experienced blogger now for about 4 years, I definitely know why people blog!

For all the reasons you mention and more, I entered that world to have a voice and make a difference. I know this sounds a bit ostentatious, but really this is what I was thinking. The monetizing aspect of the power of blogs came later. That too is a good reason to get a blog started.

People today do blog more for the monetization factor I think in most cases, and this is okay with me, as they do provide a valuable service to people searching on the internet for information on whatever the niche and subject are that they may be looking for.

Part of the solutions or problems you can address in your blog involves recommending products and services that they want (and need). Of course, as with all forms of sales, the power of persuasion is a big factor whether or not you will have success at whatever it is you are pitching.

This is where getting some help in how to set up a professionally designed page and website can help. Not only can you learn this, you also learn about how to write copy that keeps people on your page, how to capture the traffic that stops by, and how to grow that relationship and eventually promote and sell products that you get paid either a commission or fee for.

Good post on why people start blogs, and also good advice on your recommendations on how to get started. I know that at first, I tried to make a go of it on my own, and had little success. It was only after getting some professional training and access to tools to help me blog more effectively, did I start having success.

People stopping by and reading through this excellent post would be wise to take action and get started!

    Thank YOU!

I really appreciate your feedback and support in getting people to understand that blogging isn’t only about making money.

You are one of the fortunate ones that started blogging with the goal to have a voice and make a difference.

Having the option to monetize your site is nothing to shy away from. You’ve put n the work for the benefit of others there is nothing wrong with receiving compensation for that work.

I’m trying to let people who are new to the blogging scene know that it is best to start the same way that you have.

Start writing for every reason possible except to make money.

That way your writing will show more authentic and your audience will appreciate it.

    Thanks again

This is an awesome review on this article making money from blogging. The sole or primary aim of creating a blog is to, if not at all, make extra income. This should not be born out of the fact that you want to make money but rather for your passion, so as not to see it as a job. When your passion becomes a driving force, success is achievable. Thank you.

One of the best things about starting a blog site is that you can create any type of site you want. The choices are limitless so why not write about something you are passionate about.

Creating this website and writing about how to become an affiliate marketer is one of my passions.

The feedback and comments are the main driving forces that keep me going.

Dear Paul,

Thanks for your insights on why do people blog. You are right that most people blog since they want to make money from the blog.

I started a blog, kcancer.com, and blog about cancer, including prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, since I feel many people have very limited knowledge on cancer and empowering people with cancer knowledge will help them fighting cancer effectively.

Of course, I also want to make money through my site and by so doing the income could support the website.

Regards

Anthony
