What Is The Easiest Website Builder For Beginners?

The other day, I was asked by someone starting out with his online business, "What is the easiest website builder for beginners?"

I told him that if you are starting out, new to building a website, and wanted to build a website quickly then you will want a website builder that offers a drag and drop functionality.

The Easiest Type Of Website Builder To Use Is One That Offers A Drag And Drop Functionality. That Way, What You See In The Editor Is What You Will See On Your Website Once It Is Published Online.

Now, wait! It doesn't just end there.

Sure, a drag and drop functionality for building a website sounds all fine and dandy for the beginner short term.

What happens when the beginner is no longer a beginner and wants to expand their site and online business with increasingly more features?

I will be giving some more insight into that question further into this blog post.

First I'll start by describing 2 of the easiest website builders I have tried that you can use to get a basic website up and running in 30-minutes but have limits to long term growth and control.

Then I will present an alternative that may require some upfront training but can still be quite easy and will allow you to be in control of your website and grow your online business without limits.

3 Easiest Website Builders For Beginners

#1- WIX

Wix used to be considered a cheap and junky website builder for 1-page websites.

Today, Wix is fast and easy, difficult to make your site look bad and hard to mess up your site's layout.

Just like their commercials advertise, you can get your site up in no time.

Most people can get a website built on WIx within 30 minutes, it will work well, and look nice.

Before you click the "Start Now" button why not take a look at the pros, cons, and what I call nightmares to consider.

Pros:

  • Drag and Drop site builder makes it easy for any level of experience
  • You can add forums, e-commerce and most common features to your website
  • Many templates to choose depending on your niche
  • Great platform for quickly showing off work for photographers and artists

Cons:

  • Only One option for most of the available features
  • Limited flexibility for customization
  • Free plan will have their advertising on your website
  • Cost for the most popular plan will be around $174/year
  • Can prove difficult to integrate with third-party advertisers or affiliates
  • No Live Chat Support
  • No built-in email service

Nightmares:

  • You can't export your site off of Wix because Your Wix site and all of its contents is hosted exclusively on Wix's servers ==> Click Here For Details
  • No control of what features are offered or no longer available
  • No Option To manage your own backups

Overall, Wix is a great website builder if you are just wanting to create sites like a simple profile website where you want to display some of your work especially if you are a photographer or an artist.

Not the website builder you want to use if you plan to use your website for a long term online business. There are too many limitations to allow full customization and if you want to transfer your site to another platform...YOU CAN'T!

#2- GoDaddy

You can build a functioning website in minutes.

The website builder is not as good as Wix but if you are looking for an alternative to Wix then this may be the one for you.

Let's take a look at some of the Pros, Cons, and Nightmares for GoDaddy

Pros:

  • Cheaper pricing plans
  • Easy to use interface
  • Get your site up and running in minutes

Cons:

  • Even fewer options to choose from for each feature
  • Less freedom to create customized sites
  • Design and layouts not as appealing compared to other builders
  • No built-in email
  • No email support option
  • Mobile apps not available
  • No option for multiple editors
  • You cannot embed or archive a comments section
  • No password protected pages for membership area

Nightmares:

  • You can't export your site from GoDaddy
  • No control on the limited features provided
  • You can't manage your own backups
  • SSL certificates only included with Business, Business Plus, and Online Store Plans

If you are needing a quick and easy website builder then GoDaddy may be right for you.

Unfortunately, with that editing speed comes creative limitations.

GoDaddy is best for small businesses needing an online presence quickly without the need for expansion or moving to other platforms for growth.

Do you Still want to sacrifice control and customization just to have easy and fast website building?

After looking at the pros, cons, and nightmares of Wix and Godaddy you may have noticed that you are sacrificing a lot of control for some short term convenience.

I have tried both of them when I was trying to start my online business but soon realized the limits these website builder platforms had pretty quickly.

Soon as I wanted to customize some of the features I was stuck with the same plug in and design features as so many other websites out there.

Before I spent too much time and money on those websites I knew it was time to look for alternatives where I can have full control of my website and have almost limitless ability to customize my website to what I want.

That is when I found an alternate option called WordPress!

#3 WordPress Website Builder With Training

WordPress may not be the easiest for beginners but it can be quick.

With the right training, it can be both quick and easy but there is a learning curve.

If you have time and patience to do a little upfront learning you can have complete control and flexibility needed for any type of online business website using WordPress.

Now you may be asking what is WordPress and where do I get it.

In this part of the post, I will explain what is WordPress and provide suggestions of where you can access it.

What is WordPress?

WordPress is an open source and FREE website building tool. In other words, it is considered to be an easy, powerful, flexible blogging and content management system available today!

WordPress is currently used by 60 million websites, including about 30% of the top 10 million websites online. (Source: Wikipedia)

Now it may not be as easy as the drop and drag features available through platforms like Wix or GoDaddy but with a little training practically any beginner can get a WordPress website up and running in under a minute.

Once you have your website up and running then there is just a matter of creating your content which would be the same situation with any drop and drag platform.

Just because you use WordPress doesn't mean you can get drop and drag functionality for your WordPress site.

The best part of WordPress is that you can access thousands of plugins or add on features to not only customize your website to make it 100% unique but also to make it easier to build and modify.

I'll talk about plugins or add-ons little further down in this post.

Where Do You Get WordPress?

In order for your WordPress website to be seen on the internet, you will need to be installed on a web server.

Some technical wise people do create their own web server systems at home but most people rely on what is called an internet hosting service.

Even platforms like WIx and GoDaddy do offer options to host a WordPress site on their servers.

I personally do not recommend using WIx or GoDaddy for WordPress hosting due to some of the limitations the basic plans they offer will require you to pay more for added features which means they will bill you for things you can get for free somewhere else.

So where do you go to host a WordPress website?

There are hundreds of internet hosting platforms you can choose from. I will have a list of these hosting platforms at the end of this post but I want to talk to you about another option that I strongly suggest you consider.

Before you can host a WordPress website you need to choose and register a domain name.

I wrote a post about that here.

If this is all starting to sound too complicated I can understand. I was having the same problem when I started out.

I was messing everything up because I did not know what I was doing. Which step should be first. I would register a domain name from one place online, then had to have it hosted on another platform, then had to install and create a WordPress website which was all a bit overwhelming.

Then I found THE platform that provided me step-by-step training on how to register a domain name right there, create a WordPress website, and host it for FREE right on their platform.

It is an all in one platform that allowed me to sign up for free, no credit card needed so if I didn't like it I could just walk away, no risk.

By staying and following their task-oriented training, I was able to choose a domain name, register it, create a WordPress website, and have it hosted on their hosting site.

If at any time I found that what they were teaching or offering wasn't for me I could still just walk away or stay on as a free member for as long as I wanted.

As you can see by this website, I ended up staying there.

I built my first website with content that included blog posts and pictures within a couple of hours.

I had sooo many "Ah Ha!" or "OMG!" moments in my first days of training and building that I was sleeping with my eyes wide open in awe of all the revealing information they provided.

The platform I am talking about is called Wealthy Affiliate.

You can Get FREE access to Wealthy Affiliate by clicking here to bring you to the sign in banner below.

Once you've signed in, I will send you a greeting message but you can also go straight to the "Training" button where they will take you through the step-by-step training to building your WordPress website.

Once you have your basic website foundation set up then you can start to customize it to your liking by using plugins or add-ons.

How To Customize Your WordPress Website

I mentioned earlier that you can use various plugins or add-ons to customize your site and that is certainly one way to do it but may not be the best.

You can take a boring blank WordPress and make it into an incredible and complex website with the use of thousands of available free plugins but at the end, that will slow down your website's loading speed which will result in poor user experience.

Poor user experience is bad!

So how do you customize your site without slowing down your WordPress website?

By choosing a theme that closely matches the look you are planning to create.

With WordPress you have access to thousands of free, already made theme templates so you don't have to scrounge around looking for plugins to get the same look.

Some themes will have everything you need to make it look the way you want it to be and it will look unique.

These already made themes will a have many plugin features built into them so it doesn't slow down website loading time.

Fast loading time = good user experience.

How do you choose the right theme for your website?

Once again Wealthy Affiliate has tons of training with live and recorded webinars to help you with that question.

Ultimately, it comes down to your own subject taste of what you want your website to look like but they will provide you with many tips on how to screen through the thousands of available themes quickly to find the one you want.

Eventually, I will write a blog post on this subject but you can take a look at these instructions for now ==> Click Here

Conclusion

you came here to see what is the easiest website builder for beginners but I gave you 3 to choose from.

Top 3 Easiest Website Builders:

  1. Wix
  2. GoDaddy
  3. WordPress with Training from Wealthy Affiliate

I do suggest to consider using WordPress if you are wanting to grow your online business.

If you just need a quick and easy site with limited functionality and flexibility then use Wix or GoDaddy but don't be surprised that you will need to manually transfer all of your content to another platform if you eventually plan to grow.

If you want the best of both worlds you can use WordPress with an all-in-one plugin that provides the ease of drag and drop features like Wix or GoDaddy.

I use a plugin called Thrive which you can learn a little about by "Clicking Here" but I do plan to write a post on it in the future as well.

Have you ever used any of these platforms to create your website? If yes, please leave a comment below with answer "yes" if no then write "No".

If you have any other questions or comments please leave them below. I love to hear from you and try to respond to all.

Cheers

Hi Paul – you have some great and very useful articles here, thanks for all the info.

I also played with Wix and some other free website builders for a while, they are quick and easy to set up, however, just as your cons describe, you really don’t have much room to customize to your own requirements, but the biggest problem is you are tied with them forever, especially if it’s their own builder and not something like WordPress that you can easily move to any other host.

After a lot of investigation, I joined Wealthy Affiliate and they provide everything you need, great training to build and run your own business, fully hosted and managed by them – couldn’t be happier – so I would absolutely go with your recommendation.

I may sound like a broken record but it may help somebody avoid big headaches down the line should they read this post. Wealthy Affiliate is a great platform for hosting a WordPress website. I’ve never had any issues except when I, myself mess things up and had to have them revert my website to the day before so I can erase the mistakes I made.

Thanks for checking out my site

    Cheers

Thank you for sharing with us this great review of the easiest website builders. Many people are interested in making online money through blogging. It is a must to have a website when you want to be a blogger.

I like to build a website myself so that I gain skills which could help me to help others too. That’s why I like word press as website builder through training.

It is not as difficult as it seems when you have a great platform which provides helpful and clear training

It helps to have step by step training for WordPress when you are a beginner. It’s important to have all the SEO, legal pages, and customization all set up properly to ensure your site will work. Then it is just a matter of adding content.

I have used each of these and would have to say that I love Love LOVE WordPress!!! Wix was super easy to use as a beginner but did not really leave me with a great idea of what to expect from other sites. GoDaddy….pretty much the same issues. WordPress was a bit frustrating because I didn’t know how to do certain things but with time and the awesome training in WA I was able to move past that and get my site up and running!

Superb! I find that Wix and GoDaddy quick builders are nice but limited to what you can do with them. Yes, you can have email app added to it but there is only one choice. Whereas with WordPress there can be hundreds to choose from that all have different features within them.

Then there is the issue that you can’t transfer your site to other hosts 🙁

But since I got the platform that trained me on how to build a website that looks great and to my satisfaction I became quite good to know I really do it like 123 all this, thanks to Wealthy Affiliate for the wonderful training.

That’s Awesome! The main thing is not to quit. It may be “messy” at first but as you play around it does get easier every day.
