What Is SEO Traffic?

What Is SEO Traffic beginners guide

If you love free stuff you will love to know what is SEO traffic.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a process where you enhance your website to rank on the top of search engine result pages (SERPs). The resulting traffic from people clicking on the links from the search results leading them to your website is called SEO traffic, also known as "organic traffic".  Free Traffic.

Traffic resulting from people clicking on links to your website is absolutely free compared to paid traffic from ads you may have placed on search engines and social media sites.

Now, it can be said that organic traffic is not absolutely free as it does cost money and your precious time to set up website appropriately so that it can be placed on the first page of a search query.

You don't have to be an SEO expert to get on the first page of a search query but it does help to get the right training, support, and tools like the ones I use here.

If you are planning to become an affiliate marketer then you do want to take full advantage of this free traffic.

Many affiliate marketers that use SEO to drive free traffic to their website can have 10, 20, 100 thousand or more views on their website each month with little investment.

Who Can Use SEO

SEO can be used by anyone wanting free traffic to their website.

When I say free, I mean not having to pay for each click to your website using paid advertising.

If you are starting an affiliate marketing website you will want to use SEO to get as much traffic to your website as possible.

The higher the volume of visitors to your website, the more chances you have of people clicking on links to affiliate programs or viewing ads on your site that can transfer into an income for you.

Of course, the more clicks the higher the potential income you can make each month.

As mentioned earlier, if you can get 100,000 or more clicks per month and only made an average of 10 cents per person, that will still generate over $10,000 per month with almost no expenses.

The cost to have a website like mine is costing me approximately  $5/month to host my site, $1.50/month to register the website's domain name, and about $20/month for various other tools I use to build and manage my website.

That is a grand total of $26.50 per month of expenses. Once this website reaches 100,000 views per month and I aim low for an average 10 cents per person, that would give me $10,000/month minus my expenses of a whole $26.50 leaves me with a net income $9,973.50 per month.

Granted, those numbers are all speculation. Some niche websites do well and can easily get those 100,000 plus visits per month whereas others you'd think would work well only end up getting a few hundred.

There are no guarantees but that is where doing your SEO research will provide you a higher chance of success.

It doesn't mean that you can't still boost your website traffic with paid traffic. Sometimes using both organic traffic and paid traffic you can more than double your website visitors.

Sure, it would mean higher expenses but your total net income will still be more than if you counted solely organic traffic...if you do it right.

How To Set Up SEO

As a sole entrepreneur, you don't need to be an SEO expert or hire an SEO expert to get your website to rank on the first page of search engine results.

You do, however, need to have some training and support to fully understand how search engine optimization works.

I recently wrote a blog post on how to do SEO on a WordPress website you can read here.

There are basically only three things you need to do to get your website ready for SEO:

  1. Install Free All-In-One SEO Plugin
  2. Keyword Research and Integrating Keywords in your content
  3. Links, Internal and External
  4. Bonus - Embedded Video

All-In-One SEO Plugin

The main tool to use is a plugin that you can activate on your WordPress website called ALL-In-One SEO. That plugin is quite powerful and will cover about 80% of what you need to do to get your WordPress website SEO ready.

Setting up the All-In-One SEO plugin should only take about one hour that also includes the time it takes to setup your Google and Bing webmaster tools.

That is very fast considering that having your website SEO ready will provide so much in return for many years to come.

Keyword Research

The other part of preparing your site for SEO is to do keyword research.

I recently wrote about keyword research and a tool I use called Jaaxy.

Keywords are essential to let the search engines know what your website is about in general and also what each page and post is about.

It is essential to learn how to use keywords in your content appropriately. If you do what is called keyword stuffing (putting keywords in your content even if it doesn't make sense in the flow) you may be penalized and your ranking in the search engine results can be affected.

The primary areas you want to place keywords in your post or page content is as follows:

  1. Keyword(s) in Post/Page Title
  2. Keyword(s) in the Meta Title (within All-In-One SEO)
  3. Keyword(s) in the Meta Description (within All-In-One SEO)
  4. Keyword in the first paragraph or at least above the fold
  5. Keywords in the Alt Tag in your Images

Links

Adding internal and external links will show search engines that your site is active and interactive with your readers.

Internal links will help support your blog post without having to repeat all of the same information already covered within your website.

External links will show that you are not afraid to point out that you don't pretend to know everything and are willing to help your readers access resources that may have higher knowledge within another related field.

Ideally, you want to have at least one external link to an authority site within the first paragraph of your content.

Then you can have as many internal links to other posts or pages on your own website.

Embedded Video

Having videos on your website can help your SEO in two different ways.

  1. Keeps your audience on your website longer
  2. You can upload copies to places like YouTube and Facebook that have a fully separate ranking platform.

Having people stay longer on your website helps boost your SEO because the search engines see that as people find your information helpful and interesting enough to stay longer than a few seconds.

Creating videos and placing them on YouTube or Facebook can help send thousands of other people to your website that you may not have accessed if you didn't have videos.

Many people rely on videos to learn something instead of blog posts so you want to try as much traffic to your website as possible so that means going after source available.

Alternatives To SEO

There are alternatives to using SEO to get traffic to your website but with little time it takes to do you may end up losing out of thousands of potential customers every month.

SEO is practically free to do except for the cost of some recommended tools.

Alternatives include:

  1. paid traffic
  2. social media

Paid Traffic

Paid traffic is essentially you are paying an advertiser so much for each person/each click sent to your website. Once that person lands on your website it's up to you to create a website that will convert those visitors into paying customers in order to cover the cost of pay-per-click costs.

Your pay-per-click budget can be spent quickly so you want to ensure you get the proper training to ensure you don't go broke before you're out of the gate.

Social Media

Using social media is another way of getting free traffic to your website but it will take much more work.

Again, this method shouldn't really be considered an alternative to organic traffic but rather a compliment to your niche website marketing plan.

In order to use social media, you will still need to create helpful content to share. Then you will need to start networking on all the different social media platforms to get people to view and share your links.

Some people try to speed up their social media follower lists by using paid services that supposedly do that for you where you pay a certain amount and they get you thousands of followers.

Don't bother spending your hard earned money on those services as they will not be followers of any value. Sure you may end up having a social site that shows thousands of followers but that is all it is a follower list.

That list of followers won't be sharing any of your content or commenting on anything that you post, they are just a filler for showing that you have a number of followers. They will not be helping your business grow in any form.

You need to be authentic and share only to those that may be interested in your content, they, in turn, will share to others in their circle that are interested.

Conclusion

I hope this helps you understand what is SEO traffic and how you can leverage that traffic to earn a decent online income.

SEO/organic traffic is an amazing free method of getting people that are interested in your niche topic to your website for free but you can also compliment that method to get traffic with the alternatives listed as well.

it's important not to rely on one method alone to get traffic to your website as the rules are constantly changing. Having multiple flows of traffic will help to buffer the loses you may encounter if one method should suddenly change the rules.

Paul, first of all, thank you for this excellent and detailed article on SEO traffic. I thought I did know enough since I had a bit of trouble, in the beginning, to really fully understand everything around SEO. This is over 4 years ago.

However, reading your article made things about SEO even clearer than before and I am thankful for that.

So far, I’m not bad at all with my website and traffic, but I will take a closer look at some pointers you have made like including some videos into my content., which I haven’t done yet.

I have saved your site for further reference, again, thank you for all the information, appreciated.

Happy that you found some new pointers. I believe that even if 20% what I see and read is new then I’ve learned a great deal. Keep up the hard work.

Hi Paul! I believe the best way to start with our sites is pursuing organic traffic, or also called SEO. And this is because it’s free, and the traffic can still grow this way.

After we have experience driving to our site organic traffic, after we have first-hand experience regarding what works and what doesn’t, then we can start using alternatives such as paid traffic or social media traffic. That’s just my personal opinion. Do you agree with me?

Absolutely agree! Free traffic is the best traffic. The other part is that it helps to prepare a new affiliate marketer on how to write to help people, not just throw products and services on a website and hope people will buy stuff from them.

I see so many people, and I was one of them, create websites that are product review websites that are lacking in personal experience. I see sites that just have product after product review.

We have no idea who the person is writing this information and usually the information isn’t any better than that one can find on the Amazon or eBay site they are trying to send us to.

The best SEO for a website is of good quality and helpful content. No, if or buts about it, there is no secret sauce.

If you don’t have good quality content, no matter how much SEO you do, it won’t help.

That’s a story for another blog post.

    Cheers

Thank you for a detailed explanation of what SEO Traffic is all about.

When I started my niche website I didn’t have the slightest idea about SEO, Keywords, traffic, rankings, SERPS and all that. I thought I just have to make my website look neat and cool and then fill it with long relevant posts and boom … I will make money. Little did I know that I need to get my posts to rank well on search engines in order to make it work. But how? Should I spend money on ads? I know some new affiliate marketers who are spending money on paid traffics but I personally think it is not a good idea since I was just starting out. Free traffic is what I needed in the early stages of my website.

I do have the three things you mentioned to get my website ready for SEO; I installed the AIO SEO plugin, I use Keywords, do internal and external links and embed a video in some of my posts. Do you recommend embedding a short video in every post or page?

By the way, I have a question in regards to external linking, I am not really big on linking to other sites unless I trust them. But I discovered on my google search console that there are several sites that have been linked to mine where and although a huge percentage of my traffic actually comes from them, I am not sure it is wise to keep them. What’s your take on this?

If you can, I would recommend you have a video for each post or page. You are already ahead of me when it comes to videos, I’ve been hiding away from it far too long even though I advocate strongly to have them.

Having videos on your page will help to keep people on your post or page longer as it gives the choice to visitors to either read or watch/listen to the content.

To take it one step further it would be even better to have a podcast version for each as well as more and more people are using Alexa and Google assistant to search and listen to information.

I saw today that a new all-electric vehicle that’s going to in production in the coming year will be using Android as it’s main connectivity system so it will have Google assistant built right into it. That means many people will be doing voice command searches so they can listen to information while they are driving to and from work or other destinations. The new self-driving cars are going to be another huge side market to tap into. People will have a whole lot more time on their hands while commuting.

When it comes to backlinking you do need to be careful. Search engines like Google will penalize you if they feel that you are paying for unworthy links to your site. That’s when some not so straight and narrow affiliate marketers are paying for backlinks just to get lots of clicks to their site. Google is watching out for those and will drop their ranking if they find out, and they will find out.  If your backlinks are legit, where that other site is linking to you because it is related to their website subject then that is a good thing and you want to keep them. Google likes to see that people are not pretending to know everything, that even Universities or huge authority organizations still link out to other resources for other specific parts related to their topic but that other resource knows more about that other subject than they do.

I hope that makes sense. If not just let me know or you can email me at paulh@affiliatewealthauthority.com

Hi Paul or should I call you, Mr. Googlman, either way, you have created a great platform mainly promoting, “The Wealthy Affiliate“. The first thing I saw was the #1 recommended site. I clicked on it right away. Viola, it is about my #1 site too.

I know you are promoting, The Wealthy Affiliate. I was wondering if you were offering a person the option of assisting them with your personal expertise, people like me, ( yes there are still certain areas I find hard to comprehend).

The next thing was to click on your subscribe link, which led me to a page asking for an e-mail address, I apologize you already know. I also saw the crest with the money symbol inside it. This is the point where I stopped to try and understand what was the meaning of that emblem.

There is a lot of valuable information you have shared that would be very helpful. I thank you for that.

In conclusion, all I have to say is, this would be an excellent place to come to learn with a perhaps different prescriptive. I did bookmark your site as I am sure I will visit in the future.

Thank you,

LeSabre/Michael

    Thanks, Michael,

It’s no secret that I promote Wealthy Affiliate for beginner affiliate marketers as they offer so much to get you not only started with step-by-step instructions but also throughout the progression of building your online business empire.

I also promote Income School where Rick and Jim who also have great insight into what is required to make a good niche website.

I apologize if my subscribe page isn’t clear. In order to subscribe to my channel, I would need your email address so I can send out updates when I complete new posts. I’ll try to make that more evident for future visitors.

Yes, my logo emblem. I wanted to stay away from the typical graph with an arrow that increases that so many affiliate marketers seem to use for their websites. When I chose the name I wanted something that represented protection, a safe place, protection from online scams, and a place where you can learn how to make money online.

As for private lessons, I do provide assistance to those members that sign up to Wealthy Affiliate through my links.

Thank you for your amazing comments and questions. Let me know if at any time I can be of assistance.

    Cheers

    Paul
