What Is A Niche Website For Affiliates

What is a niche website for affiliates time to be narrow minded header

It was probably with the increased popularity of Amazon that many became interested in knowing what is a niche website for affiliates.

A niche website is an important marketing tool for affiliate marketers where they can target a specific audience to provide them with a product or service precisely aimed at their interests.

Many become confused about the term "Niche" as they try to read too much into it.

A niche is simply a group of people with a common interest.

Most people starting out in affiliate marketing struggle with is choosing a niche that can be used for their affiliated merchants.

Here you will learn the difference between a broad and narrow niche, how you can choose a niche that will target your affiliate market, and how you can get all the training and support required to create a successful online business.

What is a Broad Vs Narrow Niche

When you are thinking about a niche keep it simple and think of a group of people.

If we use the idea that a niche is a group of people then the most broad niche would be that which will affect them all in some way.

Broad Topic: Internet

We can take the example that your website is about the internet. You create a website that will cover everything about the internet.

The niche topic about the internet is way too broad.

Sure, you will have loads of topics you can write about but you will not be seen as an expert in any of those topics.

Do you really expect someone will go online and search "Internet"?

You can always break it down a little more like an online business.

Sure there are a lot of people on the internet or interested in online business but that doesn't mean that they are going to search it.

If they did search "Online Business" they would get millions of results and Google will certainly provide search query suggestions to figure out what that person is really looking for.

It would be the same if you wanted to create a website about health. There would millions of people interested in health but they are not going to go online and search "Health".

To narrow your niche down think about all those millions of people interested in the internet.

What would be something a smaller group of people be interested in when it comes to the internet?

Would they be interested in finding out about web-hosting?

Targeted Audience: Web-Hosting

Maybe they want to learn how to host a website on the internet or learn why people write blog posts on the internet.

Those are definitely the type of niche sites that would be more specific.

Based on the examples above you can create a niche site about Web-Hosting, Blogging or Affiliate Marketing.

They are all related to the broad internet topic but is now narrowed down to a specific topic where you can become an expert in that subject, you can become an authority.

Choosing a Niche For Your Targeted Audience

Let's take an example of having a conference that will have one thousand people attending and just remember that the online world has over 3.5 Billion people.

So in the real online world, you can multiply your potential audience by the millions.

That's one big blow horn you have with an online audience.

Ok, back to the example. You are given the opportunity to have a booth to promote a product or service to the one thousand people attending the conference.

Wait a minute, don't think you have that audience all to yourself.

You are not the only booth there so you will need to be competitive.

We'll say the conference was about the future of online marketing and has speakers talking about various topics related to reaching specific audiences online.

Now you already have a good idea of your group of people's interest, that's an awesome advantage.

When I was a beginner I would have tried to capture all of the one thousand attendees to come to my booth.

I would have opened a booth (remember that the booth represents your website in these examples) with all type of services that would help with online marketing.

They would probably see my booth with all types of online business information but no deep down authority or specific knowledge on any specific subject. I basically would know just as much as they did if not less.

Now if I opened up a booth about affiliate marketing, that is a targeted audience!

Sure, there may fewer people interested in that topic, not everybody at that conference wants to be an affiliate marketer.

You may only have 10% i.e. 100 out of the 1000 attending.

Your audience pool is much smaller but at least now you are targeting those that really want to know more about that specific subject.

Become an Authority

When you focus on one topic, you can become an authority in that subject and people will want to know what you know that they don't.

All this works the same way in the online world.

if you have a website where your topic is too broad you will not have anybody searching for that topic.

Heck, the search engines will not even know what people are really looking for and will provide suggestions where people will be guided to what they are wanting to know.

Here's another little example:

The same would be if you were going to start a website in the health field.

Billions of dollars are spent every year in the health industry.

As a solopreneur you won't be able to compete against big companies with thousands of employees so you will need to focus on a specific audience.

Ideally, an audience that the big companies are not paying too much attention to.

Now you don't want to be too specific and rare either. If there are only 10 people in the world that are interested in your niche topic you won't be able to maintain a successful online business.

Targeted Niche Groups

So if you are doing health you may focus on a niche site like people over 50 wanting to lose weight or how to manage hair loss or how to control lower back pain.

The other thing to remember, especially in the health field is that you don't want to compete against institutions that specialize in a specific health field such as heart health for example.

There are university institutions that have centuries of research and development in that field so it can be very difficult for you to come in with your 2 cents about heart health.

It doesn't mean you can't do it. You can certainly come in and talk about your personal experiences. That alone will provide a personal angle that those institutions cannot.

If you had surgeries, procedures or treatments you can provide a more personal side where the institution can only list ALL possible side effects or risks.

Examples of Broad vs Targeted Groups

Broad Topic
Targeted Group

Online Business

Affiliate Marketing - Web-Hosting - Search Engine Optimization...

Help for Hair Loss - Losing weight over 50 - Help for Lower Back Pain...

Pay off Mortgages - Get Out Of Debt - How to Save for Retirement...

Help choose a University - What Type of Education is Needed to be a Nurse....

Exercises for seniors - Assisted Devices for Seniors - Activities for Seniors...

I hope the above examples give you ideas on how you can breakdown a broad topic into more specific niche topics.

Always remember, a niche is a group of people.

You may be asking; How do I choose a niche topic that has affiliate programs so you can make an affiliate income?

You don't have to worry about that.

If you have a niche idea there will be affiliate programs for it.

Amazing content and expository write up, I am a newbie to Affiliate Marketing and I am also a newbie in Wealthy affiliate and as such, I am yet to get a firm grasp on the niche I can adopt for my affiliate affairs. Hence, reading this post has been worth my while from start to finish, as I have learnt one or two differences between a broad and a narrow niche. Cheers.

Pleased to be have been of assistance. Once you’ve chosen your niche and built your website start writing helpful content for your niche audience. Give time for your new website to mature, it can take a good 3 to 6 months, if not more, for search engines like Google to trust your website.

I am also of the opinion that a narrow niched blog is better than a broad niched blog. With a broad niched blog, you may get more traffic because you cover more topics but your audience would likely not view you as an authority. However, when you run a narrow niched blog, you’ll definitely be seen as an authority and the audience will likely take you serious.

    Paul - February 23, 2019

Narrow is the way to go, especially at the beginning. You can always expand and write about more broad topics once your site matures. One mistake people make when choosing an affiliate niche they create a website about a specific product. The problem with those niche sites is that it is very impersonal.

A product niche site is basically a catalog that does not offer any type of help to the reader. The reader can get the same experience going to an online store, they don’t need someone listing the same products that can be found and bought from places like Amazon or eBay.

So choose a narrow niche topic that may use the product you want to promote. Let’s say you want to sell mountain bikes. You don’t go and open a website called “Mountain Bike Reviewz” or something like that and all you have is one product after another of mountain bike reviews that are full of affiliate links.

You would want to create a website that talks about the activity of mountain biking. Write stories about places to go as a mountain biker, the best trails, how to prepare your bike, and you may have a few specific reviews or “Best of” articles. That way you are helping people and they won’t mind clicking on your affiliate links if what you tell them makes sense.

Thanks for this article on Niche Website For Affiliates, newbies are going to find it so useful in their findings and when choosing a niche.

Choosing the right niche for a website really goes a long way because choosing a niche allows you to be focused on one area and also allows you to concentrate your efforts in one direction in which many will know you for the particular website.

    Paul - February 23, 2019

Some people find choosing a niche for affiliate marketing can be difficult so I felt it was important to share what I have learned over the years.

Kenechi - February 23, 2019

I used to get confused whenever I hear about niche. But now, I no longer get confused over it. For any affiliate marketing business to succeed, there must be present and specific niche the person is rolling and also,  the website at which you use in running the business is the niche website.

    Paul - February 23, 2019

You got it. When you are creating your niche website it’s important to imagine a group of people gathering around to hear what you have to say. Imagine those people listening, then talk to their peers next to them, then asking questions. Those are all traits that help create a successful online business.

akshaysaxena - February 23, 2019

Awesome Paul. I’m so glad that I’ve got to read your article this morning. I’ve realized that niche is the most essential criteria that almost all newbie faces. As our traditional education system doesn’t operate this way, so it’s hard for a new mind to function in this direction.

I liked the way you said that “Niche is a group of people with similar interests”.

By carefully reading your post, a newbie will surely get benefitted. Even people like me, who have already taken baby steps, this post will deliver even more clarity.

So, thank you for sharing this masterpiece. Looking forward to more such posts by you.

    Masterpiece, Wow, Thank you, Akshay!

I remember struggling with figuring out a niche website topic to choose so I am pleased to see that people are finding it helpful.

Anthony Hu - February 23, 2019

Dear Paul,

Thank you for your explanation of affiliate market. As a beginner, your article is very helpful for me to thinking about my niche.

To be successful, I need to become authority. Just like I open a booth in a big conference, I need to be a star in certain field in order to attract audience to my booth. I need to be a star in a small area. Even though it is not a number of people, but all people in my niche will come.

It is well described. Now this is the guide for me to establish my niche selection.

    Paul - February 23, 2019

It sounds like you have a great plan, Anthony. I look forward to hearing about your progress with your niche website.

Shui Hyen - February 23, 2019

Hi Paul,

Great article, you have clearly defined what is a niche and how to choose a profitable niche for your targeted audience. Presently, l run an MMO website and intends to set up a niche website about investment opportunities. Do you think this niche is too wide and how can l narrow down it?

Thank you for sharing this article.

    Paul - February 23, 2019

I feel that a niche topic of investment opportunities may still be too broad. The financial niche is very very competitive. You will be competing with banks and other investment companies that have…uhm…Billions of dollars to invest in marketing their products.

You can still be competitive as an individual but you will need to be very specific with what type of investment to really have any chance to compete. even then it will take longer for you to start ranking on the first page of search engines. It will probably take 1 or 2 years before it starts to see any form of ranking.

If you were to choose something in investments try to take a different twist than what the majority of people do. I’ve seen one guy becoming more and more popular within the financial circle by focusing on “Velocity Banking“.

So don’t go straight to talking about whichever investment opportunity you choose. Talk about people’s experiences trying to save, how people are getting debt, why people can’t pay off credit cards, and all other types of financial topics that will help the common person then you can have some articles about the investment opportunity you want to suggest.
