What Everybody Ought To Know About Selling ClickBank Products Online

blonde woman in front of computer help with selling clickbank products

If you have followed my short course or checked out my #1 recommended affiliate program you will already know the basic knowledge required to selling a product online.

Once you have learned the basic principals to selling products online, then you will have no problems selling ClickBank digital merchandise.

First, I highly suggest that you get the necessary training here before you undertake the task of trying to sell Clickbank digital products, it will make your life a whole lot easier.

Let's start by describing ClickBank.

ClickBank is a one-stop shop for all things digital.

Whether it is a "How to" digital information product or info on setting up your business installing home automation systems, ClickBank has you covered A to Z.

Another feature about ClickBank is not only can you sell the available digital products to earn a commission, but you can also create a digital product for others to sell, where you pay them a commission for each sale.

You can become the vendor.

I recommended that you start by selling the already available products, you can choose from thousands.

If you are a blogger within a particular niche ClickBank is undoubtedly to have a product that fits your niche.

When you do sell from the listed products, some vendors will pay you up to 75% commission on each sale.

Sounds Too Good To Be True?

It may sound too good to be true, but it is the real deal.

If you think about it, once the vendor has created a digital product, they don't need to create a new one for each sale. Once the first copy is completed, they can sell thousands, millions, or billions without having to lift a finger.

The vendor may need to update their information once in a while to remain current and up to date but that is all.

So them paying a high commission is worth it if it means they can get more sales of their product without any extra overhead cost per copy sold.

Easy Peasy!

So now you probably want in on this so you can sell these thousands or millions of copies for 75% commission.

Well hold the bus for a minute...if it were that easy don't you think everybody would do it?

I'll tell you right now there is no easy cheat to get those sales.

You will need to work at making those sales.

If it didn't take any work, do you think I would be here writing this now instead of sitting on a beach as the money of these Clickbank products gets sold?

I do like to help people, but if I were bringing in millions a day doing this, I don't know if I would be giving away my magic secret.

Beware of Scams

Which brings me to my warning about other sites that claim you can make thousands of dollars per week selling ClickBank products with a few minutes of work each month.

If it were that easy why would they need you?

Why would you need to pay them an up-front fee of a few hundred dollars to be given a website that makes thousands of dollars per week.

If the math doesn't add up, then it is a scam to get your up-front fee to be left with nothing but a bogus website that doesn't get any traffic.

Ok, That is it for my rant about others trying to take your money that you worked hard to get.

Now for some ranting or warning about products on ClickBank that are not all that legit either.

I always verify the ClickBank products that I am promoting. I've seen some that are outright scams themselves.

So if you want a legit online business selling legitimate products online...do your research.

How Do you Sell ClickBank Products?

My preferred method of selling ClickBank products is by posting affiliate links on my websites.

As I mentioned earlier, ClickBank has thousands of products within thousands of niches to choose from.

So if you have a website on, let's say, learning Spanish, ClickBank has products related to that topic.

You can choose to put banner links on the sidebar of your site, in line word links, or popups, the choices are endless on how you can put links on your websites.

Then when someone clicks on one of those links, it will bring them to that vendor's site, or promo page.

If that person you referred should purchase or sign-up to a program, then you earn a commission as stated by that vendor. Remember that many sell their product for a 75% commission. That is $75 on every $100 sale.

You can filter the choice of products available in many ways such as average sale, % commission. Gravity (an index to see how well affiliates manage to sell that product) to name a few.

I prefer to focus on the gravity first as it is a good indicator of whether that product is legit.

Can you Sell ClickBank Products any other way?

You sell ClickBank products other ways such as through various Social Media platforms as long as you follow the policies specific to each platform.

You can also sell products the old-fashioned way by word of mouth then sending them an affiliate link to a ClickBank product.

In other words, the product can be sold in any fashion that allows you to share what is called a HopLink.

A Hoplink is a link that identifies you as the affiliate so you can earn your commission for every sale.

I find that trying to figure out and understand the policies for each platform is just too time-consuming for a small business like mine.

That is why I still prefer using my websites to promote products.

All I do is research what product to sell, add the link to my site, and ClickBank does the rest.

I can always pay-per-click to get traffic to my blog that has the affiliate link so I can boost my sales that way as well.

Hi Paul,

While I’m a strong believer in working hard to build a website and create useful content while promoting useful products, have you found that Clickbank seems to be home to a lot of scammy products? The last thing someone would want to do is accidentally promote something that’s a scam. That’s going to backfire and hurt your business don’t you think?

I definitely think it’s a good idea to research products prior to promoting them on your site, especially when it comes to Clickbank. While it’s been a long time since I’ve logged into my CB account (because I saw so many scammy products) they may have cleaned things up a bit. What has been your experience with this?

I certainly do see many products on ClickBank that are scams. I did put some pointers about how to recognize a product or service that may be a scam. As a promoter it is important that you do your due diligence. If it does feel right then don’t promote it. It is your website and you have the authority to whether you want to promote something or not. You are right that if you do send people to scams or poor products it  will affect your business. So keep your site clean, helpful, and honest so your online business can grow.

Wow…. commissions up to 75% certainly sound good.   At the same time, I was glad that I was able to read this very detailed review of Clickbank.   I had heard that a lot of the vendors of digital products/services on Clickbank are scams or in a very grey area.    Yet, as you mentioned  Clickbank has thousands of products and niches to select from.   I suppose we should not dismiss Clickbank because of the bad apples that are in the basket.

I liked the tips that you shared to avoid the scammy type of products.   I noticed that you recommend Wealthy Affiliate’s training program.  I use Wealthy Affiliate myself. They have taught me practically everything that I know about affiliate marketing.

Thanks again for the excellent review.

There are scams within ClickBank and they do try to filter them out but you do need to do your due diligence to ensure what you are promoting is a great product that will help your reader. If you are guiding them to a product you want to be confident that they will not come back to you with bad reviews about your poor guidance. Seeing that you are a Wealthy Affiliate member I know that you will follow their training that also encourages to create real, honest, and helpful content.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for the sharing this article the information is very interesting. I have heard of Clickbank, but  I don’t think I am sure if I have a digital product. I have always wanted to write a book on making bracelet in a particular style. I have a few notes but nothing tangible.  Can I sell the product of other vendors.  I am still working on my website , articles and understanding about affiliate marketing and my traffic is not organic, or social or visitors.  But I certainly like to try it.

I am sure it a terrific opportunity.  The information is great and you sure make it easy to understand.

Thank you for sharing,

    Thank you, LadyEsther,

If you are new to building your niche website then I suggest focusing on that first. Build your site, add quality helpful content, build authority and reputation in your niche. Once you have about 25 -30 posts it will take a few weeks/ months for Google/ Bing to rank your site to the point where you will get traffic. Once your site starts having traffic, once your an authority then I would say start looking at adding affiliate links, selling bracelets from Clickbank and/or creating and selling your own product. That is my personal advice from my own experience as I tried to do too much all at once when I should have focused on one site, one niche and build my niche authority.

Hi Paul

Great information about ClickBank.

Although I’ve known about ClickBank for a while I had no idea they also had products listed that are scams. I somehow always thought their products were scam free. That’s a real eye opener so I’ll definitely remember that when looking at their listings again.

By the way do you have a guideline on how to interpret the gravity stat? Do you have a cut off percentage below which you wouldn’t consider a product as being viable ?

    Paul - December 18, 2018

    Thanks Mark,

As for the gravity rating I personally look for a “Gravity Rating” of about 60+, but I don’t dismiss lower scores either as it may just be that it is a new product and has not reached its full potential yet. You must also factor in that although it has a high gravity score, meaning higher amount of sales doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be easier to sell. The higher gravity scorers may just mean that there is a higher competition for that type of product where you may have thousands of affiliates selling the same product but a lower gravity product may have less sales but also less competition but a higher price. In the end I use gravity as a quick filtering but the biggest determinant for me when it comes to which product to sell is to look at the actual landing page of the product. Is it good content and well explained, will it help or answer the needs of your audience. In the end, the ultimate goal is to help your audience get what they want, and if you can earn a commission in the process then it is a win-win-win scenario. If in the end there is a loser somewhere in the process then your reputation will be affected and eventually you will no longer have any readers or followers coming to your site.

I am glad that you talk about this Paul. Although Clickbank is a famous site and affiliate program, it is also filled with so many scams. I promoted many products from this network and some of them were actually scams. It is very bad for building trust with people today, once you lose it, it is hard to recover. I would advice all affiliate marketers and customers to pay close attention when getting products or services.

    Paul - January 16, 2019

I believe that trust is the key to becoming a successful affiliate marketer. So pay close attention to who you affiliate yourself with. My advice is if you can’t confirm that it is a trustworthy affiliate program then don’t promote it. In the end, it will only hurt you to get those few sales.

Hi, I like the idea of selling clickbank products but have a question.

How do I know the product is a good quality product, do I have to buy it first and try it?

I always think if a vendor gives away 75% the actual product is not worth a lot but now I read that that does not have to be so with digital products because they don’t cost anything in copying them.

But still, how do you choose a good product that sells well?

    Paul - January 16, 2019

The ideal way would be to buy it or know someone that has it to review it.

There are millions of products out there so you obviously won’t be able to try and buy them all.

As you gain experience within the affiliate marketing world it becomes easier to decipher a majority of the good from the bad just by their presentation.

That process is certainly not a 100% accurate but with the volume available that may one of the fastest ways to find the good ones.

You can always read reviews from other people that have purchased them and tried them before you promote.

Personally, I prefer to buy them or have some type of access to the product myself before promoting. I want to know that I have given my personal take on something, that I’m not just copying and pasting information just in the hopes to get a sale.
